Distal femoral fractures: is failure related to the osteosynthesis device?

چکیده

Distal femoral fractures (DFFs) are challenging injuries. For a long time they were considered difficult to manage and often led degree of disability. Until the early 1960s, most these treated conservatively, with poor functional outcomes. With development new materials surgical techniques, fixation has gradually become standard care for DFFs demonstrated better outcomes than non-surgical treatment in terms fracture healing, alignment knee motion. The wide variety options – ranging from osteosynthesis procedures like external fixation, plate intramedullary nailing different kinds joint replacement reflects complexity management fractures, which display comminution meta-diaphyseal region articular involvement. These difficulties greater when associated elderly patients multiple comorbidities bone quality, may not allow obtain stable fixation.

Original Contribution TREATMENT OF FRACTURES OF THE DISTAL FEMORAL – OVERVIEWS OF OSTEOSYNTHESIS FUNDS

Distal femoral fractures thigh up from 4 to 9% of all fractures of the femur. There is a direct relationship between the mechanism of receipt of the lesion and the age, sex and the type of fracture. Caused mainly by high-traumatic effects and lead to a high degree of disability. For these reasons, injuries in this anatomical area are of great social importance. The goal of the distal femur frac...

Minimally Invasive Plate Osteosynthesis for Periprosthetic Distal Femoral Fractures after Total Knee Arthroplasty

PURPOSE To evaluate the outcomes of the treatment of distal femoral fractures using minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis following total knee arthroplasty (TKA). MATERIALS AND METHODS From July 2008 to October 2011, 14 patients were treated with minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis for periprosthetic fractures following TKA. The mean duration of follow-up was 19.2 months and the mean ag...

Minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis using a locking compression plate for distal femoral fractures.

PURPOSE To evaluate treatment outcomes of minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) for distal femoral fractures in 31 patients. METHODS 22 male and 9 female consecutive patients aged 21 to 65 (mean, 42) years underwent minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis using a locking compression plate (LCP) for distal femoral fractures. The causes of injury were vehicular accidents (n=24), falls ...

Distal femoral fractures: current concepts.

The diversity of surgical options for the management of distal femoral fractures reflects the challenges inherent in these injuries. These fractures are frequently comminuted and intra-articular, and they often involve osteoporotic bone, which makes it difficult to reduce and hold them while maintaining joint function and overall limb alignment. Surgery has become the standard of care for displ...

Treatment of distal femoral fractures in elderly diabetic patients using minimally invasive percutaneous plating osteosynthesis (MIPPO).

The aim of this study was to evaluate the results of minimally invasive percutaneous plate osteosynthesis (MIPPO) of distal femoral fractures in elderly diabetic patients with osteoporotic bone. Thirteen supracondylar or intercondylar femoral fractures were treated by MIPPO with a locked plate without bone grafting. All fractures healed, with only one delayed union in a patient who had deep inf...
